A Weekend Camping Menu Your Family Will Love

Just so you know, we may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. We have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

A Camping Menu Your Family Will Love

When we go camping I’m all about making memories, not dishes. We keep our camping menus simple and full of family-friendly favorites. This weekend camping menu is good for two nights, two mornings, and three lunches. Adjust the amounts based on the number in your family. It’s toddler-approved and easy on the wallet, too. We have a trailer so I cook these on a stovetop, but they would work for tent camping with a propane stove or over a fire in a cast iron as well. Breakfast Camping Menu

In the mornings we’re usually up pretty early because … toddler. We usually feed him some muffins and fruit while Mac and I drink coffee and wake up. Then Mac and Bo will leave the trailer to walk the dog and I get the trailer put together for the day – table up, sleeping bags stowed away – and put together breakfast. We do the same breakfast both mornings for simplicity!

  • Scrambled egg and sausage breakfast tacos
  • Fruit – usually berries or pre-cut pineapple or bananas
  • Muffins – we pick these up from the bakery

Lunch / Snacks Camping Menu

We aren’t really a sit-down-for-lunch family. We’re usually at the beach or on the trail or in the truck headed on an adventure by the time lunch rolls around, so we usually go for snacks. Here’s an idea of what we grab at the store depending on what we feel like or what’s on sale:

  • Deli Macaroni or Potato Salad
  • Crackers
  • Salami / Proscuitto / etc.
  • Various hard cheeses
  • Fruit – apples or more berries – Bo loves berries
  • Mini Carrots
  • Ranch Dip
  • Hummus
  • Salsa
  • Chips
  • Cookies, Brownies, or whatever treat Bo picked out at the store

Dinner Camping Menu

Camping Meal Plan

I love cooking dinner over a campfire! Unless the weather is uncooperative, this is our default. We always make sure to bring a grate with us in case our fire pit doesn’t have one or if we’re building our own fire in a dispersed site. The first night I do the most cooking, and then on night two I make it easy and we work on leftovers!

Night One Dinner:

  • Burgers with fixings
  • Grilled corn
  • Grilled potato packets
  • Tomato Salad
  • S’mores!

Night Two Dinner:

  • Hot dogs and bratwursts with fixings
  • Leftover lunch/snack items like deli salads, chips, fruit
  • S’mores!

Camping Menu Staples

Have you ever ended up camping longer than you’d planned? We’ve been in the backcountry when it started raining, making the dirt road difficult to travel and stayed an extra night for it to dry out. We’ve also just decided to stay longer when we didn’t need to be back anyways! We always make sure to have these staples with us, rotating them out seasonally to ensure freshness. It’s also nice in case of inclement weather that makes grilling sound less than fun after a long day of soggy adventure.

  • Sandwich bread – we bring this from home
  • Peanut butter
  • Jam
  • Box Noodles
  • Ramen
  • Canned tuna
  • Applesauce pouches

Try this camping menu out the next time you head into the great outdoors and let me know what you think!
